Fourth movement from Suite No.1 of Russian composer Ippolitov's Caucasian Sketches (1894). A good example of descriptive music, the term Sardar originates from Persia but is used in many parts of Asia to mean a commander or leader.
KS1/2 idea: a good listening exercise would be to ask the children to draw the scene that they imagine from listening to this music. What is it in the music that makes it sound majestic and grand? (instrumentation, texture and pace)
