'O trenzinho do Caipira' by 20th century Brazilian composer is brilliantly descriptive piece, can pupils identify what part of the train each group of instruments represents? Also notice the changes in timbre and tempo.

KS1/2 idea: Play from beginning and ask ch to make a 'train' action, with hands by their sides, in time with the music. Why is it so difficult to keep in time at first? The tempo is unsteady and keeps changing until finally settling into a steady beat when the melody begins.

This is one of a range of resources relating to track 14 of the Saydisc 'Listen To This, KS3' world music recordings, entitled 'Windsong 3'.

This is an interactive Audio Mixer app, allowing users to mix their own musical texture from up to 6 channels of ready-made synthesized musical layers. The resulting texture must sound tranquil and relaxing (reflecting the genuine aeolian windharp textures in the associated source listening material). Users can control volume and pan of the layers and record and play back their mixer performances.

Channel groups and master faders can be enabled for more able users. The number of mixer channels can be varied to match different ability levels.
